WTF... wounded tree frog?

For some unexplainable reason, I have just gotten a Xanga (http://www.xanga.com/home.aspx?user=gumby_boy51), not that I'll be using it that much, but it should complment my rather unused MySpace (http://www.myspace.com/lowcarbzombie) as well.

While you were gone

Well, since Geoff was gone to camp this week (still is really) I was in charge of the discussion part of the Lunch Bunch on Tuesday. The topic was something along the lines of “Do extreme music styles (such as Death Metal) have a negative effect on listeners.” I enjoyed the discussion but only two kids showed up, Cameron Bower

and
Joseph Chang.

Then Chris Muse was in charge of W.O.W. (Worship On Wednesday), but only one person showed up for it, Kirsten Paschal.

So we sat around and talked and ate random stuff out of the kitchen and pantry (like a spoon full of strawberry icing and some Hot and Spicy Ramen). Then a little before Kirsten left Kenny showed up to clean so I hung out with him while he was cleaning as usual. After he was done he convinced me to go with him into the woods behind the church and find an old “No Trespassing” sign he saw when we were playing paint ball a few weeks ago. On our way back to the church his fiancée called him and he got distracted and turned around and I took the lead to get us out of the woods.

Granted some of the kids were at camp this week and I know that some have summer jobs and such, but I’m really surprised at the low turn out for these events. I mean we get better turn out for WOW when Geoff is around but I don’t think we’ve gotten more than four kids to come to the lunch bunch yet. Oh well, doesn’t really matter as long as the youth are having fun this summer I guess.

Anyway, there won’t be anything next week because all the CYF kids, Geoff, and Chris will be at CYF conference (high school camp), so I know I’ll be bored that week. I wanted to go, but I wasn’t sure if I’d be free (which I’m not) and waited to long to even get my name on the maybe list for counselors. I am going to be at CHI RHO II though, and I’ll be helping with Vacation Bible School the week before, so my summer is still pretty busy. Later.

No such thing as quick and easy

Last night I headed to church around 5pm as usual to hang out with the youth till I was “summoned” to go into choir practice to sit and be bored. I knew that they’re wasn’t going to be CHI RHO (Jr. High) because most of them were leaving for camp but I expected to see a few F.R.O.G.s (4th, 5th, and 6th graders) and the CYF (High School) kids up there. I didn’t though, I think they thought there wasn't youth groups since Geoff was already at camp. The CHI RHO kids started to show up and load their stuff into the church van (which the youth has named the Ghetto Puppy) and while they were loading I was informed that practice was cancelled due to "bad weather." I had to laugh because at the time there was scarcely a cloud in the sky and it was still fairly hot. The news of bad weather had all the moms who were sending their kids away a little worried though and since I was now free for the evening I went along so that they could call (Chris doesn’t have a cell phone and one of girls’ moms, Julie, already had my number) or we could call if anything happened to us. The ride down was borderline fun, if you exclude getting cheez-its thrown at you, and as we got thru the gate it just started to sprinkle.

We got to the Conference Center

where the kids were supposed to check in and it started to rain, then after we got the kids inside it started to hail (just pea-sized though). We got the kids checked in and headed to their cabins when the wind started to pick up, then with just two stops and three kids left it started coming down like crazy. Chris tried to back out of one cabin with the kids looking out the back to tell us what was back there and we still hit a little tree. Finally we just sat for a good 10 minuets and watched all this rain and wind as all the little dirt roads and pathways of the camp were washing away. When it let up a little we took the boys to their cabins and then found out were the last girl was supposed to actually go (she thought she knew but didn’t). Chris and me headed back, pretty much following the storm we had just been in. It wasn’t too bad driving back, and we got to see some cool lightning along the way. We ended up not getting back till lick 10pm.

Also of note, since Geoff is at camp this week I get head up the Lunch Bunch for the CYF this Tuesday. That should be a lot of fun, and, FREE FOOD!!!

Well, that’s about all I got. So until the next one…
May all your deformities be appealing, all your hours be happy *hiccup*, and all your prayers be answered (no is an answer).
